Sydney Harbour Bridge vs Pylon Lookout
Climbing the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge is a must-do activity for many tourists but will leave a big hole in your finances between $238 to $363 depending on when you choose to do your climb. Instead, the cheaper alternative is to climb the Pylon Lookout which is part of the famous bridge and has stunning views of the Sydney Opera House and panoramic views of the city and at only $13.00 and further discounts with a YHA card it’s a much cheaper alternative.
The Pylon Lookout is found within one of the four concrete towers of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and you can watch people climbing from the vantage point.
‘I’m free’ Walking tours
After using this company in Melbourne, we jumped at the chance to go on another ‘free’ walking tour of a new city. At 10.30am and 2.30pm every day at Town Hall you can join this tour and get guided through key landmarks whilst learning about the history and other fun facts. It’s also a great way to meet other travellers! They do ask for a donation at the end of the tour and we’ve always been impressed with the whole experience. I wish more cities offered this.
Sydney Opera House tour vs seeing a live concert
If you fancy a guided tour around this iconic landmark it costs $37 for a one hour tour. A more in-depth version running for around 2 and half hours is called the Backstage tour but costs $165! Alternatively, look out for cheap online tickets to see a concert there instead. We decided to save the pennies from the tour to put towards tickets for The Last Night of the Proms costing $59, what a magical experience!
Food shop after 5pm
You wouldn’t believe the bargains available if you food shop after 5pm. We once got a whole roast chicken for $4! Many items are reduced and normally need to be eaten within the next day or two which is perfect for your dinner that night.
