Gardens By The Bay
If botanical gardens are not your cup of tea, think again! Gardens by the Bay is packed with exotic plants but with the addition of skywalks, Super-tree groves, flower domes and art sculptures ensuring there is something for everyone. My highlight was enjoying the views from the Supertree groves walkway 50 metres high-up, providing 360 views of the gardens and the city of Singapore beyond.
Singapore Zoo
If you can spare the time, combine your trip to Singapore zoo with the River Safari next door. That way you can see polar bears, pandas, white tigers and plenty of exotic animals to fill up your day. My recommendation would be Mama Panda kitchen in the River Safari for a tasty lunch.
Raffles
Visit the Long Bar at the colonial-style luxury hotel of Raffles Hotel. The Singapore sling is the famous gin based cocktail to have when you visit, as this is where it was first created but it will set you back $30 Singapore dollars – ouch! As we had a tight budget we settled for a beer and enjoyed eating the free monkey nuts instead.
Cat Cafe: Neko no Niwa
With four cat cafes to choose from, I decided the only way to decide was to do my research. The reviews on trip advisor and wellbeing of the cats seemed to be glowing for Neko no Niwa (Japanese for ‘Cat Garden’), so off we went. This cafe cares for 13 cats which are all rescued and the staff are friendly and will advise if they see a visitor poorly interacting with their cats. This peaceful environment is a great way to educate people and encourage more people to adopt these beautiful creatures into their homes.
China Town
If you are on a budget or want to eat as the locals, then visit a Hawker Centre, we visited the one in Chinatown. Here you will be submerged into the Chinese culture with the delicious smells of authentic noodles to the famous chili crab on offer. The only problem will be, what to choose!
